#55,165 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

I have drastically cut back though. every time I light up it is a conscious effort I'm hoping soon I will be able to tackle the demon and get rid of them all together. I highly recommend giving this to someone you love that would like to quit. Soon I will reread this and hopefully be successful.

I was told to read this book with an open mind. I have smoked since I was 16 years old (I am now 42 years old) Quit at least 20 times in my life.... always "giving up" smoking. I will say I was "Negative Nelly" throughout the entire book, thinking I would read it and then smoke the next day.... I am NOT kidding you, I put that book down, smoked my last cigarette and went to bed... I woke up a non smoker and never looked back. It has now been one month and I have had ZERO desire to smoke! It is so crazy awesome! I was skeptical just like you are whoever is reading this... (otherwise you wouldn't be reading the reviews) Please Please PLEASE do yourself a favor and get the book and just read it with an open mind...sure it's only been a month since I quit, doesn't sound long until you realize that I have had ZERO temptation, no eating like crazy, no anger or irritation.... When I quit in the past I would hate to be around smokers because I wanted a cigarette.... now ( I am not kidding) I love to be around them because it reminds me how lucky I am to be FREE from that. My husband still smokes, I have NO problem sitting out there with him while he smokes and I drink a beer. (Yes, even drinking does not make me want a cigarette....CRAZY right!) I have tried to get him to read the book...and eventually he will, but that's not my fight to fight...that's his. PLEASE read this book! Have I mentioned I love this book. LOL Allen Carr saved my life!!!! Besides...what have you got to lose? NOTHING! If it does not work for you, you have spent a few bucks... BUT with a success rate of 90% the odds are pretty good that not only will you quit but you will save a LOT more money than the book costs!

Added:Almost 8 months now and still smoke free! Not sure I'll keep updating but happened to be here. I've had a few 'light' cravings. Like, I'm distracted when I get in my car and have a passing thought about lighting a cig. This past month has been more stressful than before so I've found myself thinking about smoking more often. I've realized I REALLY don't want to smoke again when I've imagined actually smoking, just old habits/crutches ya know. You build your life around smoking without even realizing it. It takes time for new (hopefully healthier) habits to form, I'm honestly still figuring that out. I realized I keep forgetting to water my porch plants because I never go out there anymore!Added:Almost 6 months now and still smoke free. I can't remember the last craving I had to be honest. It's just pure relief not being a smoker anymore. I remember having such anxiety about a family vacation to a theme park and worrying about where I'd smoke. I don't even think about smoking anymore and sometimes forget I even smoked. Time flies! (wrote this in a particularly good day)Edited to add:4 months later and I'm still going strong. I still have cravings every so often, 1-3 a month depending. Stress in particular brings them on of course, sometimes boredom. The cravings go away pretty quickly. I've only had a couple really bad cravings, hard to describe but more like...my skin is tingling. I was able to get through them by actually imagining myself smoking and remembering that last horrible cigarette.I genuinely feel better. I can breathe better, I'm not gasping for air after walking up from the basement, and I don't cough crap up constantly. I didn't gain any weight and have recently started working out (which helps me feel even better). If you're reading the reviews hopefully it means you're considering buying it for yourself or someone you love/care about. Do it. If it helps you, fantastic. If not, you're no worse off than you were before.Original review:I bought this book a week ago today and wish I could buy a copy for every smoker on the planet. I've been wanting to quit smoking for awhile (said every smoker ever) but was really nervous about it. I've been smoking for about 16 years, I started when I was 17. I'd already backed out of one quit date about a month ago after talking to another smoker about going cold turkey (he told me I'd kill someone and I chickened out). But I'd gotten to the point I hated smoking. I was desperate for a solution and started researching. The nicotine replacement therapies (NRTs) are a crap shoot in terms of effectiveness. The most effective way to quit and stay a non-smoker is cold turkey. However, all you hear about the cold turkey method is how horrible it is. I was trying to pump myself up and mentally prepare by watching youtube videos when I read about this book in the comments section. I honestly thought it was a joke or some kind of scam when I first saw it. But I googled it and ended up on Amazon. The reviews raved about how great this book is, how effective, and it made quitting so easy. It got my hopes up but I was skeptical. I started reading, desperately hoping it works. I read it over a couple days, smoking more than I normally did as my quit day got closer. Cigarettes started tasting/smelling awful, I started coughing badly when I smoked, and at the end I was actually gagging to the point of nearly throwing up when I smoked. I hated it even more, wondering WTH I was doing. All because of this book. I thought I'd finished the few cigs I had left in my pack but didn't. I smoked less than half of my last cigarette, coughing and gagging the whole time. I stubbed it out and haven't smoked since. I will never smoke again. Had I been at home and not work I would have cried from relief (and I'm not a crier) when I realized I'd smoked my last cigarette. I thought about smoking just one more, a last one to really remember it but I realized I didn't want it. I tossed the rest of my cigarettes and lighter in the trashcan when I got home. It's been one week. I've never tried to quit before so I don't really have anything to compare it to. The first few days I felt quite antsy but happy. I was excited about being a non-smoker. The cravings pass pretty quickly and have gotten easier. I would just try to distract myself, I recommend having a list of things to do. I sew so I bought a bunch of fabric and picked out things to make. Aprons are a good one. There have been a few bad cravings but I went out on my porch (where I used to smoke) and stood out there for a few minutes taking some deep breaths. It really helped. Only once did I think about buying cigarettes but I immediately realized that it was my addiction and not me that wanted me to buy cigarettes. I still have some cravings but it takes time for nicotine to leave your body. The kind of high/happiness/excitement I had after smoking my last cigarette has slowly dissipated for me but not has not affected the ease of quitting. I'm still happy to be a non-smoker, pity those who still smoke but I no longer have the urge to sing from mountain tops and hug strangers (which was a weird urge for me anyway). But I do still feel overall happier or maybe relieved is a better way to put it. Like a weight has been lifted. I don't know why this book worked for me and not others. Maybe because I was so desperate to quit, maybe because I really tried to follow what the book told me to do, or maybe I'm just lucky. I'm just glad to have found it.This book is amazing and I'm so incredibly grateful for it. I bought the Kindle version that's clearly for UK buyers (I'm in the US) but it still worked. $8 to help me quit a god awful addiction. I hope this book gets talked about more, I plan on telling all the smokers I know about it. If you're serious about getting people to quit, this book needs to be talked about and recommended. Please read this book and keep an open mind. What do you have to lose?

If you have no clue as to how bad and addictive smoking is for you, this is good to read: it explains in detail what health hazards etc there are and what an awful habit it is, which is repeated over and over. However, I kept in mind that the first thing Carr mentions is he quit smoking with hypnoses. I have a friend who used to be a heavy smoker and had a horrible cough who also quit smoking by hypnoses and it worked for her: never touched another cigarette again and the cough was gone after a few weeks. In this book Carr repeats over and over again how easy it was for him to quit and especially that he never craves a cigarette again. Well, this is what the hypnoses does. People who quit without it, and I know plenty, still have cravings years after quitting. So I do not think this is an 'honest' book, I felt duped. And now I quit all by myself, without its influence. And it is hard every day - I am three weeks in now. What helped me was to look up what quitting smoking does to your body day by day, good and bad, so I know what to expect which makes it much easier if you know what is coming: you can mentally prepare yourself for the rough ride. Good luck to you, with or without this book: you can do it!!
