I have Dale Carnegie, and I just want a little book with good tips inexpensive.

It's a concise book that is a great reminder of things you may have been taught long ago, or perhaps were doing unconsciously- if you're lucky. Some tips I definitely feel like most people do not know, including answering questions with information that leads to a dead end. If you're socially awkward, you definitely want to read this, it breaks down what to do (AND not do, which I appreciated) very specifically. I'm outgoing and feel comfortable navigating a party of strangers, but this has explained how to skip some awkward conversations that I definitely have had and do not want to have again!

This review is just for the Kindle book. It was scanned in badly and has so many spelling errors in it that it's completely unreadable. It has at least one spelling error per sentence. I'm stuck with it since there's no possibility of a refund, but learn from my mistake!

I struggle with talking to others; specifically: talking to those who don't know me well, or share my interests. (Which is most of whom I find myself speaking to) To me, many of the tips in the book feel like common sense, but are things I fail to do nonetheless. They are things I have to see in writing, usually provided with subtleties that I didn't consider. The most valuable tips for somebody like myself are those in the first half of the book. Later on, they begin to be more business related, but I can still see their value, despite currently being in college.The book gets five stars from me because it provides tons of valuable advice; in addition, Leil keeps it interesting by giving personal examples and stories alongside her tricks. I fully intend to come back to this book to help make these tricks habit. After a full read, it becomes a guide, you'll look back at conversations and realize what tricks you used, or failed to use.

Why does it seem like every time I turn the page, the author is invited to another "exclusive" dinner or party? Why is this always the tone you use to set the stage? How is this going to allow us as readers to find her relatable? Also, the subtle name dropping of "my very successful friend who works on Wall Street for a very successful investment firm who does charity work for blah blah blah" detracts from the main messages of the book: learning how to talk to people. I don't care about who you're friends with, Leil.These messages (which are quite useful! and I've employed several with great success!) are the main point of the book, and would be more effectively conveyed if the author had stopped trying to impress us with everyone she supposedly is bffs with. If you ask me, she needs to do some research on how to become more approachable/likeable, for which her current skills are bland at best.

What an awesome book!!! It should be a must-read for every High-school graduating person. In addition, I believe every businessman can benefit from it. I did, and I am an experienced Entrepreneur. A bit difficult to rate.In one side Leil writing is witty and filled with anecdotes to deliver her pointsOn the other side the tricks offered feel like too much. Some of then would drive people crazy overthinking, and her funny stories get annoying when she involves stereotypes and genders. And that leads to a boring book. Moreover many of her chapters are about how to MAKE people think believe or act in certain ways and that is merely manipulative.

I was desperate, but skeptical when I ordered this book. Ever since becoming a member of an editorial team at my high school, I've encountered countless moments when I JUST can't seem to communicate on a personal level with the rest of the staff members, who were all a grade above me.Yes. I felt timid every time I spoke to the editors, and despite how much I wanted to talk to them, I couldn't even make it past a thirty second conversation. And after I accidentally goofed on our FIRST release? Oh god none of them even bothered to talk to me after that... And I felt way too threatened to try to start a conversation. So the result was this: I suffered from becoming the social outcast because of a pretty bad first impression.....After reading the book, I understood why.1) I abused the Quick-smiles that were mentioned as shallow in the first chapter. I would flash a smile that immediately disappear after three seconds (or less). I'm now working on the "flowing smile" technique :D :)2) I simply had 0 skills in making small conversations. Usually the small talks end with me or the listener just running off with a "Oh I've gotta go now"3) It was my specialty to ask overly obvious questions and make the most awkward comments at the worst times.....4) The "instant history" technique was something I never used despite the various circumstances I catch myself in.5) I fidgeted a lot and gave embarrassed smiles when I wasn't feeling embarrassed.6) technique #88, "my goof your gain" was something I really should have used to ease the tension.....well darn it. I'll just keep trying with this book's help. :D

Bill Phillips had been publishing bodybuilding magazines and marketing nutritional supplements for years when he had a weird revelation at a trade show: many of the most loyal and enthusiastic readers he had were totally out of shape. From that uncomfortable realization came his popular Physique Transformation Contest (top prize that first year: Phillips's own Lamborghini), now world famous, and this book. The three-times-a-week weightlifting program in Body for Life is deceptively simple. If you've spent any time in the gym, you've already done all the exercises. But Phillips includes a couple of high-intensity sets at the end of each exercise that should compound the training effect on each muscle group. Same goes for the cardiovascular exercise he recommends: just 20 minutes, three times a week. But those 20 minutes are spent jacking the intensity up and down, accomplishing more in less time. Phillips arranges all this into a 12-week program, along with nutritional and motivational tips. Be warned that the nutritional advice gets a little spacey. For example, he puts "carbohydrates" and "vegetables" into separate categories, and recommends three daily doses of a nutritional supplement called Myoplex, which his company manufactures. (Fortunately, he gives tips on how to make each dose taste different, such as by adding drops of peppermint extract.) I like this book so much I'm buying it again after lending it to a friend who will probably never return it. I used this book and its recommendations with some changes and lost a significant amount of weight and reduced my risk for several health issues. For those who talk about this book being a "marketing scam"- don't let them get you down. There is a recommendation to uae supplements the author's company makes, and I did not buy a single one. I still lost over 60lbs. I've followed Phillip's core principles several years later and have kept a majority of that weight (as in 55lbs of it) off. If you want sound advice and have an ounce of common sense to make effective choices for yourself, then give this a try. It's not a small commitment; it takes time and effort like any health/lifestyle overhaul.

This routine is all about working smarter, not harder or more often. I did the Body-4-Life routine back in the early 2000's and went on to do it again a few years later. As a male my physique gained good muscle mass w/ out bulk from fat. You'll get the kind of figure that most people find sexy. I am planning on doing it AGAIN in 2017. Personally I think this is one of the best work-out systems ever created .. and if you're looking to get in shape w/ out needing to spending long hours in the gym, then this is for you !! The routine is is only 3 days of weights a week, w/ a 45 minute target time .. and only 2 days of cardio at 20mins .. perfect for the busy person who can't spend an hour and a half doing weights or cardio in the gym ! Since there is only 3 weekly (45min) weight work outs, it's much easier to find a partner who can commit and stay committed !! Your partner only need meet up for under 3 hours a week !! Most routines are 4 to 6 (1.5hr) sessions a week. I also like the suggested eating regime, 3 meals a day and 3 (meal-replacement) shakes a day. Who wants to eat 4 to 6 meals of food a day ? Not me, that's why I like this system so much.

If you follow this, it will work. Period. I dropped 52lbs in 12 weeks. Just don't go completely nuts on your free day. Far from a weird fad diet, this just makes sense. Eat well and exercise. This book explains how to do both effectively and quickly, and it's not a sales pitch for supplements. Bill's company, EAS was sold to Abbott labs years ago. I did use protein powder or meal replacement shakes for a couple meals per day and still do, but it is not in any way a requirement for this to work.

A power lifting friend told me about this book many years ago. I had been very ill for an extended period of time and this book was a great way to get back into shape. I recently decided to go back to the gym and the same friend reminded me of this book. I couldn't believe it's still available after 20 years!I consider this the ultimate guide for those who are just beginning to lift weights or who are returning (like me) after an extended absence. No need to spend HOURS in the gym. The weight workouts are 45 minutes and interval/aerobic is 20. The routines are mapped out, there are good instructions and pictures to support doing the exercises correctly, and there's an eating plan. Bill Phillips is very inspiring and the book is easy to read.If you're thinking of lifting weights and don't know where to start or if you're returning and need some inspiration, buy this!

Probably the easiest and best fitness/food program to follow. I've used this book numerous times. Also, have lent this book out to people and never gotten it back which is why I've probably bought this book 3-4 times. Phillips has a super simple program that leads to clear, dramatic and sustainable results. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to get into shape. In particular because the food aspect of this book isn't gimmicky. It's super straight forward and I think leaves you with a blue print you can follow to continue in the future after you reach your fitness goals.

Love this book, I have purchased it many, many times. I have had such great success with it and when I'm asked about my "diet and exercise" program, I tell them all about this. I keep buying copies to hand out when someone is genuinely interested in how it all works.

My friend found a trainer and paid BIG bucks for his training. When my friend revealed his his workout schedule and nutrition plan... it was BFL.....If you are motivated this is a great kick start to a healthy lifestyle.

BFL is still a great resource and program. The 12 week plan is organized for efficient and logical use of time; it worked very well for me years ago. I view this workout routine as I did my Navy boot camp years ago - very structured, but easy to follow. Though I'm in my mid-50's, this workout plan still fits nicely. After I complete these 12 weeks, I'll maintain my health by using his brother's book, Strength For Life (less intense, but similar concept). My original new copy of Body for Life from over 10 years ago has been heavily used, so I needed another one for reference that's still in one piece.

Before I begin, I just want to say that this is the first review I have done for Amazon despite being a Prime member for 6+ years. I know I know, you may be thinking I am some lazy bum who does not care about his fellow Amazon shopper....OR realize that this book has made such a large impact on my life and want to share it with as many people as possible. My goal is to give a little background about myself, my struggle and the solution. Even if just one person gets something from this then this review will be a success. Now a little about myself... I am 26, I have a successful job in the construction industry, have a great group of friends and family and my whole world revolves around cars. Talking, wrenching, watching, driving. It is in my blood. This seems irrelavent now but will make more sense later. I went to a great high school, played all the sports, never did drugs or drank in excess. Yes, I went to parties but it was not a every weekend event. Continued on to college and got a two year degree. I was paying for myself so I could not afford the required classes to get my Bachelors degree and in search of a job I ended up getting into construction. By the time I was 20 I was probably drinking twice a week steady with some of the older guys I worked with. I turned 21 and without realizing it my drinking had shot through the roof. I was going out and buying this or that to try whether it be hard alcohol or microbrews. I did not think much of it since I was just doing what every other 21 year old was doing, right? Around the age of 23 I realized I had a major problem on my hands. I was buying a pint of Jagermeister a night and could slam the entire bottle in one shot. Of course I left out some details in those two years such as I gained about 60 pounds, ruined the relationship with the girl of my dreams whom I dated for 5 years, I lost touch with friends I had known for years, was now socially and personally using drugs (weed, pills, coke) becuase I was trying to reach a "new drunk" since I had such a high tolerance and I lost touch of reality. But I always made it to work in time, I made new friends, bought bigger clothes and was just telling myself one continuous excuse after another. So I continued to drink like a fish. Anything and everything. I can not tell you how many times I would slam that pint of Jager, and within an hour was driving to the local liquor store for another pint because I started to early (5:00pm) and didnt want to lose my buzz before bedtime. Being blackout drunk was almost a nightly occourance and the hangovers just became the normal for me. But again, I kept it to myself and figured I would deal with the issue later. I eventually went to an AA meeting and what the people said there really made sense. They had the same issues as I did. But I did not know how to dedicate an hour a day to it, but more importantly, let everyone know that I was an alcoholic. I did not want that label. I tried stopping through willpower a dozen or so times. That would last about two weeks tops before I gave myself another reason to drink. I would google things and tried the Kudzu root and the vitamin deficiency programs, etc. Nothing worked. I knew I had to stop before I killed myself or someone else. I could not live my life like this. I stumbled across "The Easy Way to Control Alcohol" on Amazon, read some reviews and based off them, it almost seemed to good to be true. I ordered it and was nothing but doubtful. Once I recieved the book I did not open it up for about three weeks. Why, I am not sure, probably becasue I would have rather drink then read. Once I started, you are given very specific instructions, one of which is continue to drink like normal as long as you read the book sober. I would read a dozen or so pages at a time about every three days and I really took my time, did what he said and comprehended what he wrote. The entire time I was nothing but doubtful that this would work however in the back of my head I was jumping for joy hoping it really would be as easy as Carr said. When I got to the last chapter it probably took me a week to finish it. I was just so apprehensive and nervouse for the "final instructions." I did it, I completed the book but nothing felt different. Did it work? I went to work the next day and on the way home I avoided all the liquor stores. But it felt more like when I try to quit with the willpower method then a permanent fix. I stayed sober that night. The next day I went to work and did the same thing, avoided the liquor store stop on the way home but only because I felt like I had to. I was walking up to my front step of my house when my best friend whom I have grown up with was working on his car and he yelled over. He asked if I wanted to give him a hand putting a part on his car when he gets off work (9pm). Then it all clicked! Right then, right there, it all made sense. That was my "Eureka!" moment. I was free. No longer a slave to alcohol and my life revolving around it. At that moment I realized I no longer had to make up another excuse or text him the next day saying how I "fell asleep" when in reality would rather get in a drunken coma then hang out with my best friend and work on cars. So many times I had left car shows/events early or blew off working on a car because I wanted to get drunk. At that moment I knew I would never have to make that decision again and it felt incredible. Everything Carr said fell into place and not only was I going to be sober, I was going to stay sober and it was going to be easy. I am proud to say I am currently six weeks sober, I have not felt this good since I was about 20 and I have zero desire to drink. This includes going to the bar for lunch with my co-workers, bowling in a league once a week, celebrating New Years Eve, my birthday and attending a wedding. It is a feeling I cannot describe to say I have beaten alcohol. I know my review has been a little longer then you probably wanted to read, and I could still write more but I just wanted to show that I was your typical jock in high school, I was succeessful at whatever I tried and alcohol still dragged me down to its level. Even then I was still a functioning alcoholic but that did not make it ok. I also wanted to establish just how much alcohol I was drinking on a daily basis and was able to stop just like that. This book is your answer if you have a real desire to quit drinking. You need to follow Carr's instructions exactly as he says, take your time reading it, have an open mind and digest what he says. Just becuase you finish it does not mean your magically cured. You may have to re-read it or let it sink in for a few days. It has changed my life and I am forever thankful for it. I cannot wait to update this review and let everyone know how my sobriety is going and the positive changes it has led to. Thank you for reading and if you have any questions do not hesitate to ask.UPDATE: Well I’m sorry for such a long delay in writing an update but I just wanted everyone to know that I just passed my 5 year date for being sober. Yes, that is correct, 5 years without a single drop. My life has done a full 180. I went to school to become an electrician, I have purchased my own house and completely renovated it, I have an amazing fiancé who I live with, my finances are in order, I am back in the gym lifting and have lost all the weight. This one book has changed my life. I think one of the best things about this method vs the willpower method is I don’t constant want a drink. I have literally lost the desire to drink. Now do not get me wrong, there are times where I have had a bad day and could use a drink but I think that is more of what society has told us to do vs what my body actually wants. And the hardest part I think of this whole process is the social aspect of drinking. I still will go to bars about once a month with coworkers or friends and have a coke and I can be in that atmosphere and be ok. But I will always drive separate so that I can leave whenever I want. So to wrap things up if you feel that your drinking has gotten a little out of control this book is worth a read. I can’t believe I have been clean for 5 years but here I am writing this update. It is an amazing feeling. Everything is so much simpler now and I am happier then I can put into words. So don’t give up. Keep trying. It is worth the fight. Life will go on without alcohol.

This book does what it says it will do. I actually was deceived by the title....I read it for my own personal health, thinking that I was going to "control" my alcohol consumption to feel better, not realizing that I would be quitting forever. What I wasn't expecting, was it perfectly explains how you have unknowingly fallen into a BS cultural trap, meant to dumb you down into a mundane life, and pay the mafia government a tax for the privilege! I was only drinking 1-3 drinks/day...not enough to make me dysfunctional, but enough to fog my brain without me really recognizing it. OMG, the fog has lifted, and for the first time as an adult, I can think and live with the clarity and sharpness that I had when I was 14 years old! You name it...my work, my relationships with myself and others, my tennis and golf game...every aspect of my life has catapulted into a new realm of understanding, effectiveness, and efficiency!! I started at the age of 17, and pretty much haven't stopped until I was 49. My God, I feel like a kid again! I'll never go back....I'll never drink again! Thank you, Allen Carr!

If you have a drinking problem, you know it. No matter what anybody else tells you, you know deep inside if you have the problem of alcohol dependence, or alcoholism. What you do about it, is entirely up to you. Now if, and only if you are motivated to "control" your problem, this book is certainly for you. It cannot make you quit nor stay quit of it's own accord, because you have to do the "work" of sobriety on your own but it clarifies the many issues regarding alcohol use in society and the myths we encounter about drinking. The book is useful if you do not need a medical detoxification program to stop drinking. If that is the case, then it enables you to stop and also gives the first insights into maintaining sobriety since it appeals to common sense and some scientific logic without preaching or recommending you join a religious organization in order to maintain. Without giving a spoiler alert, let's just say the title is somewhat misleading, but Allen Carr reveals his secrets incrementally so the last chapter makes perfect sense. I had been to AA twice and it wasn't for me. This "method" if there is one, worked for me, but not without my own daily due diligence. You can't place your personal responsibility onto a book, but it is essential reading if you are suitably motivated. I have been enjoying a new sober life for a year and half now, and life is better and clearer than ever. I cannot recommend this book enough, but I need to emphasize that you must be highly motivated in your quest for sobriety. Think of it as freedom!.

Carr says the penny can drop straight away for some. For me it took a couple of months to undo a lifetime of brainwashing. I would reread the book or selected chapters many times and at no point could I disagree with his arguments.On occasions, I would consume almost a bottle of whisky in an evening. Now, the very idea of having a drink causes feelings of revulsion.
