My husband and I fell in love with DK (especially the Smithsonian line) during a trip to the Smithsonian museums. The books are filled with an immense amount of information which is presented in a fascinating, readable way. Of course the author couldn't include absolutely every single detail about the subject at hand, but they still did a wonderful job. The photos are gorgeous and a perfect complement to the information being presented. The books themselves have sturdy binding and stout construction.
First of all, DK Motorbooks are beautiful books which superbly treat their subjects! I wanted a decent tome which treated The American Revolution and I purchased this volume with confidence that it would meet my expectations. Well it didn't meet my expectations; it exceeded them! I thought I knew just about everything about the Revolutionary War but this superb book proved me wrong! I learned a great deal from this book and its images and graphics! I highly recommend this book to any American History enthusiast!
This is the best "stand-alone" one volume summary of the American Revolution I have ever seen. Expertly written and lavishly illustrated, this book has a strong appeal to readers of all ages and knowledge of the American Revolution. Through historical artifacts and eyewitness testimony, as well as through important topics such as slavery, loyalists, foreign intervention from the superpowers of France and Spain and Native Americans, this book provides a masterful look at the American Revolution and the issues from that time period that are still relevant today as they were two hundred and forty years ago.
A material omission in my opinion is a lack of maps showing troop positions and movements for the various battles. It would add so much to the narrative.

It's a book that educates and makes history informative and exciting, especially our own American history. Great value for a great price - large format hardcover book with wonderful pictures and detailed information. It was a much larger book than expected as well. You can't go wrong.
