I love Streetwise maps. The lamination is great when one is out in rainy weather. The best part is that they actually include all the streets which hotel maps do not. Having these maps has allowed us to find restaurants in neighborhoods which we would not have ever found with a less detailed map. They pack easily and fit into a jacket pocket.
Helped a lot in Vienna...main streets...labeled to help find your way...along with good metro stops labeled as well..Ps...good metro system...for great transportation to see entire Vienna and area...Vienna to get around system is great...no car needed...
Love these maps. Laminated against wet weather. Shows metro lines and major tourist sites.
Great quality. Super helpful, sturdy and essentially waterproof (as in would stay dry in a light rain.) We used it everyday.

A must read for anyone, whether mature or young; if you are like virtually evert American man, you have few "friends" and likely no-one you can really share with or listen to criticism from. So, a good beginning is realizing what you are missing and why it's worth the energy. This book with open your mind to new ideas and change your perspective. Read and enjoy.
A great book on a topic that seems to be sparsely cover in most discipleship programs
This is a great book
Does the Bible discuss friendship?If you have to pause for a moment to wonder, you’re not alone. The short answer is Yes, of course the Bible discusses it. But compared to some of its other major themes, friendship doesn’t get much air time. And though friendship is one of the most common relationships in the world, it has not been too much discussed in Christian literature.Into this situation comes Drew Hunter’s Made for Friendship: The Relationship that Halves Our Sorrows and Doubles Our Joys. This appears to be Pastor Hunter’s first foray into lay theology. The slim volume is divided into three parts: The Necessity of Friendship, The Gift of Friendship, and The Redemption of Friendship.The first two parts, which make up the bulk of the book, are a bit sluggish. Hunter sometimes feels as if he’s writing to people who don’t understand friendship at all and who have never experienced it. He writes early that “friendship is, for many of us, one of the most important but least thought about aspects of life†(23). This simply doesn’t ring true for me. It doesn’t reflect my web of relationships, especially among women, and especially my work as a campus minister. Yet it is basically the presupposition he founds his work upon.Disconnection with a main premise can make reading a slog, so I’m sure this affected my approach. However, his elementary engagement with the meaning if friendship made it difficult for me to imagine who the audience for the book is. However, he personally seemed to benefit much from the information he discovered in research, so I trust there are more like him in the church who need it.Some of the biblical elements in the opening sections were questionable. For example, when testing whether a statement about the importance of friendship by a Medieval theologian is true, he runs straight to his life experience, not Scripture (25). This fails to convince, especially if the audience really is friendship-ignorant. They may not have their own good experiences to fall back on, and if his don’t ring true for them, where do they go?Similarly, on page 79 he declares, but does not seek to prove, that “marriage…should be the closest friendship.†This is not biblically required, and potentially places a burden on marriages that they cannot bear. A marriage is a unique and good blessing, but it does not have to be where one’s best friendship lies, though it certainly could be. That sounds more like our current culture speaking.However, Hunter’s definition of friendship, “an affectionate bond forged between two people as they journey through life with openness and trust,†(80) does offer some specificity that is welcome. He unpacks this definition with a combination of common sense, folk wisdom, and appeals to scripture. For the person struggling with understanding friendship, this section will probably prove the strongest.Interestingly, at the end of the section he remarks, “These [criteria] characterize deep friendship, but not necessarily good friendship†(92). This was perhaps the first time in the book I wanted Hunter to say more, and yet he did not. Is his statement true? If so, how can you tell if you’re deep but not good? Many people are caught in unhealthy relationships; working through this idea could have been a real gem in the volume.Hunter’s final two chapters fall under “the Redemption of Friendship†and are his strongest. Here he engages most with the full breadth of the Bible and illumines the theme of salvation as an act to establish friendship. Hunter sometimes writes as if friendship is the highest category for understanding Christ’s work, whereas it would be more accurate to nuance it as one among many. Still, it is a precious one indeed.Hunter is effusive and encouraging in his lengthy treatment of Jesus as best and most faithful friend. In his final chapter, he digs deeply into that topic and then spins out six practical ways the friendship of Jesus impacts the Christian life. I think this chapter of the book would make a fantastic stand-alone document that I would be happy to share with my church community.Hunter’s love of God and his earnestness show throughout his writing. It is easy for the reader to tell that he is engaged with his topic. He says many, many things that are true and helpful. Though the book at times unfortunately feels like a whole that is less than the sum of its parts, I am confident that it will be used by the Lord for the encouragement of his people.*I received a copy of this book for review from Crossway*
Isolation is not what we were designed for. Yet, it is often, the default choice in life. God has created us to desire and participate in community. Friends are simply extensions of the hands and feet of Jesus and we are wise to have friends by being one. This book addresses a specific aspect of life that is usually not talked about but experienced. Therefore, Drew Hunter has zoomed–in on the beauty of friendship(s) and the blessing that they are in the midst of waiting for our living and eternal hope. Upon reading this book, you will most likely be compelled to relish in the special bonds you share with others whom God has brought into your life. This is a good and necessary thing that we often take for granted. Just as I am typing this review, I have received a text from a very sincere friend, who has expressed his gratitude for our friendship. These sort of relationships are life–giving and the author wants us to seek and celebrate just that as we navigate in a fallen and sometimes, isolated world. Thank you to Crossway. `Made For Friendship` is a Christian Living book by author Drew Hunter. It is a short book on friendship which is so important in this age of technology. There are three parts that focus on different aspects of friendship: the necessity, the gift, and the redemption. A quote that stood out to me is found on page #46: "We thank God for friendship, we treasure God above friendship, and we enjoy God through friendship."This book would be excellent for a Sunday School or group study, individual study, or friend-friend study. This was an amazing book on friendship. I highly recommend it for all Christians. We really don't do friendship well if we actually sit and think about it. It's a rare gift. Sure we have lots of acquaintances but how many true friends? It has opened my eyes.Jesus knew and understood friendship. We can learn from His example and many practical tips that this book provides. The book explains why we ache for friendship, why it's important, and how to cultivate it. It is written in a very practical manner that is easy to understand and implement.I found this book to be beneficial to my understanding of friendship. It is also challenging because these instructions now need to be put into practice. What beauty there would be if God's people learned to be good friends!The book includes questions to help facilitate group discussion. I couldn’t wait to download the newest book from Hunter. Even though this is a history book, it will intrigue you from the beginning. All the essays are interesting, and you can see Hunter’s influence on the book, but the star is Hunter. She brings to the reader’s attention the conditions of women in the Victorian Era and what many of them had to endure. Her story shows how the early 20th century was shaped for and by women of the Victorian Era. I like that she isn’t critical of the women and men who turned to prostitution and views it as a career for them, and she doesn’t judge their choices. That makes them seem very real and human. The portrayals of Cora Pearl, ‘Skittles’, and Lillie Langtry give extra insight into how sexuality was utilized to advance on a social level. She magically blends the story arc into the unrest of the American Civil War, the sexual history of the South, as well as the settlement of the American Frontier. She has a way of explaining history through art, words, music and even fashion that is enchanting.
I waited with bated breath for this novel to become available in the US, because my friends in the UK were recommending it to me.I absolutely love this book! Each chapter gives you more insight into the past and how different eras viewed sexual practices and sexuality. Having been written by all female authors was an invaluable insight to me, Sexuality and Its Impact on History reads easily, educating and informing in such a charming way it was a pleasure to read. I especially like how Hunter S. Jones ends the book by bringing the reader into the 20th century. Her essay is the longest but gave me insight into how women handled the strict moral code of the Victorian Era, and how that affected the US during the Civil War and beyond. Well done ladies!

Along the way, you pick up some fascinating bits about marriage traditions and laws, prostitution and the reasons for it and the life of women in those eras.Heaven help you if you were a royal. The story of Mary, Queen of Scots was very compelling and well done. My heart went out to her, a queen at six days of age tor between those who wanted to take advantage of her claim to England’s throne. That her fellow Scots should betray her and her cousin, Elizabeth, murder her was a horrible end for so promising a life.As an author of historical romance who does extensive research for my stories, I found the book of keen interest. Others who just love reading about history will find it of interest, too. A great addition to the knowledge of women’s lives in history!
Sexuality and It’s Impact on History was a great peek into the history of some very powerful ladies who helped shape the female sexual role throughout British history.Author Haddon’s accounts of Lady Godiva were an eye-opener along with other ladies playing high roles in the royal courts. I enjoyed this collection and will often go back for future reference. These women portrayed were not just sex objects but women of power in their own right.As a writer of erotica, I found valuable information here on the roles in sexuality during those time periods.

I'm in family medicine and encounter oral pathology on a regular basis. This book can't be beat for the purpose of recognition and diagnosis of oral diseases. Excellent photographs and explanations cover the full gamut of pathology likely to be encountered, and arranged according to useful diagnostic schemes - by type, color, location, etc. Even contains an extensive quiz at the end to test your mastery. I liked it so much I bought another one for my dental hygienist wife (who also loves it).
Great book to give an brief overview of oral pathologies. Highly recommend for dental students!
This atlas has the advantage of having sections based on the appearance of the lesions, thus giving you an easy way to look at a group of lesions as you are narrowing down your diagnosis. Each named lesion has a heading for description, etiology, typical visual clues, the differential diagnosis, diagnostic steps, treatment recommendations, suggested follow-up, clincial significance, and other useful clinical information. The photographs are clear and very descriptive.Overall, this is an excellent reference text and it has the advantage of being remarkably reasonably priced considering the rest of the available options. It is also more user friendly and better organized as well. The spiral binding makes it easy to keep the book open while using it, and there are tabbed reference pages for the start of each section; the sections are white lesions, red lesions, ulcerated lesions, blistering/sloughing lesions, pigmented lesions, papillary lesions, and soft tissue enlargements. I returned the atlas that was required for my dental hygiene oral pathology class, and bought this one instead since it is the superior choice.

This book got me into computers and networking. I now work at a Big 4 technology company designing network architectures despite having majored in Psychology. I owe an incredible amount to this book and to this author. I literally thought one day, "I have no idea how the internet works". I looked for books, and I had two choices, either this book, or a $160 textbook like this Computer Networking: A Top-Down Approach (7th Edition) that devotes hundreds of pages to different graph-based computer algorithms.This book appeals to two kinds of audiences: ** 1. If you don't know anything about the internet. This book is the best, most easy introduction to get. That's good, because it's also one of the only introductions that's not a textbook. You won't learn everything, because that's a lot of computer science algorithms, but you'll have the best overview from this book. The stories are good, but not excessive like in Malcolm Gladwell's books. ** 2. If you are under 35 and work in technology, no matter how technical your role. This is because so much of the technology you use now is virtual...software defined networking, virtual machines, virtual routers, VLANs, VPCs, AWS, etc. The internet is still a very very physical place, made up of hundreds of thousands of miles or wire, giant internet exchange centers (like the kind Facebook runs out of Nebraska that you'll never see), $80,000 routers made by Brocade that people like Verizon buy, etc. If you want to know how the internet works in the same way that you can open your car and know how everything works (as opposed to just buying a Tesla), get this book.P.S. If you are now pretty technical and want to move beyond the algorithms and other important-but-not-real-world kinds of learning, I suggest you check out Network Warrior: Everything You Need to Know That Wasn't on the CCNA Exam.
I do not agree with some reviewers claiming that the author lacks proper technical insight to write a worthy book about internetworking. It seems to me that it was a deliberate decision not to lean too much on tech details when describing how Internet works. Certainly I could not expect this title to describe inner workings of the TCP/IP suite, or how routers from different networks negotiate routes via BGP. The author, starting with a realization that most people don't notice the existence of networks (Internet is seen only by the content pulled from servers), tried to describe their physicality. Internet is not a nondescript "cloud", it happens to consist of cables. Lots and lots of cables.I like Andrew Blum's remarks on how Internet "tubes" strongly depend on world's geography and existing infrastructure. Cables are placed along roads, the largest Internet exchanges are placed in cities which already were commerce hubs, undersea cables originate and end near ports. Data centers are built in cold places with abundance of cheap electricity. The Internet, commonly perceived as ubiquitous, at its very core (the backbone network) is running over a not-that-large set of routes, governed by a handful of companies. Also appealing to me were the attempts to capture the atmosphere (the nature) of visited buildings and people; probably a bit stereotypical (all network engineers wear hoodies), but enjoyable.The author's penchant for expressing philosophical remarks (mainly on how virtual relates to physical) was annoying a few times but, OTOH, they make it a book which tries not only to convey Internet's architecture, but also its idea. A pleasant read, IMHO even for die-hard network specialists.
I'm an engineer and have always been interested in networking technology. When I heard an interview with author Andrew Blum regarding this book, on NPR, I immediately decided to buy and read it. The book is interesting and insightful in parts, but I found it a bit superficial and was somewhat disappointed with the superficiality of most of it. I guess I was expecting something more like Malcolm Gladwell's quantitative analyses of many of the topics that he writes about, but instead this book is mostly a travelogue of the author going around and just looking at various internet exchange points and data centers.There were two chapters that were really great: one concerned Andrew Blum's meeting with Leonard Kleinrock, who in some ways "founded" the Internet when he established the first inter-network link in the original Arpanet. Hearing one of the Internet's founders explain all the things he did and didn't envision for it was fascinating.The most interesting chapter is the second-to-last, in which the author observes the laying of an undersea fiber-optic cable in Portugal, which will connect it to the Azores and Africa. The nitty-gritty details of forming the physical interconnections between distant points are described here in an up-close way that I found far more satisfying than the detached, tourist-like point of view that the author takes in most of the book.

I came across Steve Hullfish through his blog and thought, 'Thank god, someone who asks the questions that I am interested in!' That same day I saw he published this book and I immediately bought it. It does not disappoint! Assembling responses from a mix of amazing editors this books gives insights into things that most books miss -- how to watch dailies, approaching a blank project/timeline, organizing bins in a way that will help your cut, micro structure, macro structure, pacing and so so much more! The other thing I love about this book is that the responses/approaches from the interviewed editors are not always the same and often contradict each other. Some methods work for some but not others. This allows the reader to see many approaches and use the wisdom from each approach to create their own hybrid style. It's also great for new assistants, allowing them to become familiar with the many approaches top editors make take to a new show. Great read for creative and practical approaches to your next edit!

I've read a dozen books on Film and Video Editing. There are a plethora of great reads, but to me, none of them have captured multiple Editors voices and gone into the nitty gritty like "Art of the Cut" has; it's AMAZING!Walter Murch's "In the Blink of an Eye" has always been a seminal book on the subject (And that book is still required reading for editors), but in my opinion, Steve Hullfish has made something even more informative and useful to Editors.
