The author explains the most complicated principles of post-Newtonian physics in the most easy-to-understand words and examples. He wraps general relativity, special relativity, quantum physics/quantum gravity into stories and analogies that are better than any of the dozen other books I have slogged through. I am not a math major; not even a math minor. But, I really enjoy this book.
To start, if you haven't already read the description, these things aren't actually things Einstein said to his barber. These are things the author figured might come up if he actually had conversations with his barber and what they might talk about.The book does a good job in identifying common scientific misnomers, issues and questions we have all probably had from time to time and presents them in a humorous and factual way. There are a ton of things in here, some stuff you might already know and some you may not have.If you're into science or just curious about things, this is definitely a good read.
I didn't finish it. I didn't really care for style and the way it was written. I appreciate "dumbing down" science concepts to the point that even I can understand them and I like books in this genre. For some reason, this author's writing didn't hold me at all.
This is how our every day world works. The explanations are right to the point, with a few laughs along the way. Every 8th grade science student should read this interesting work, along with all of us "armchair scientists". Good read, thanks.

There are so many questions on this world around us and unfortunately it is usually hard to get a straight logical answer. For all those inquisitive people that would like a simple straight answer Robert L. Wolke has written "What Einstein Told His Barber". I loved this book. I have always struggled in my physics classes because I found the explanations where usually given in what I considered a foreign language. This book was written for people like me. It is very simple and helps you understand even the most complicated physics concepts. In the book Robert pays close attention to the language that he uses to make things more understandable. His humor pulls you in and keeps you hooked while his definitions of what he calls "Tech Speak" increases your knowledge tenfold. You can never get tired of reading this book even if you hate science. I give this book a 9 out of 10. After a full semester of taking physics at school I now truly understand the concepts because of this book, plus my knowledge of trivial things that I can use to impress people around me has expanded beyond what I thought was possible.
Great little book full of intelligent good humor and science facts. Style and substance with just a little drama. 😊

Running home to lick her wounds after losing a job she hated, and a boyfriend who didn’t make her heart react, Eleanor is back in Cranley after eight years of being elsewhere, and determined to find a way back to her job and a London life. Sure, the gossip tabloid she worked for wasn’t the ‘respectable†or high powered position she had told everyone she had, but after eight years of lies and a return of her eczema with all the stress, she’s not sure she can ‘come clean’ to everyone. But with no offers on the horizon, and her mother in need of help with the stray animals (dogs, cats, tortoise, donkey and goat) that she’s collected. So back to Cranley Eleanor goes – dragging her possessions, designer wardrobe and guilt behind her.Issues, guilt, lies, reconnection, rediscovery and even a bit of romance all come to light here as Eleanor reconnects with her friends Annie and Megan, and starts to loosen up. Of course, she’s still got a loosely formed plan to provide all the dirt on superstar singer Tommy King, now staying at Willow Tree Manor where Annie, former housekeeper, is engaged to the future Earl, Sam. See, Sam is a music producer / manager, and Tommy, just off a world tour and still grieving for his grandmother, is resting, relaxing and recovering from an ankle injury. He’s the first to spot Eleanor’s mask and façade, buried under a shell of makeup and clad in designer clothes. For Eleanor has issues….she must always be ‘pulled together’ and look her best: her father’s bunking off with a much younger woman when she was 12 have her convinced that his obsession with ‘how things look’ is the reason he left, and her mother’s sacrifice for her means she has to always be perfect and amazingly successful to live up to those expectations.Honestly, I expected Eleanor to be more difficult to enjoy and appreciate, but she wasn’t. She’s just stuck in her own box, and working her way out of it, with some perfectly lovely (and funny) moments as the animals, country and even her own clumsiness have her struggling with always being “perfect’, and her real personality and the reason she, Annie and Megan are friends, starts to come forward. She’s back to mixing her own lotions and potions for her eczema, making a carrot-concoction for the very-burnt nose of Megan, and an electric connection with Tom (not Tommy King) have her coming clean and thinking about her now realigned future. Finding that connection with Tom, who also feels unwanted and shuffled about after a childhood in care, the loss of his grandmother has hit him hard. But the welcome from Arthur (the Earl) and Rose (his sister), the lack of expectations and comfort in that feeling of family have him thinking of more. Particularly with the very attached Dylan, a stray dog who wants him – and no one else, with the exception of Eleanor. A lovely getaway story that packs growth, heart and plenty of smiles with laugh out loud mishaps, plenty of animal hijinks and friends for life.I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. Rating: 4.5/5This book is appropriately tagged as ‘a perfect feel-good read to escape with’ and I thoroughly endorse that. It is a heartwarming story of reconnecting with friends and family, unexpected opportunities and learning to open your heart to love.Eleanor McCartney is dealt the double blow of being sacked and breaking up with her boyfriend, all within one day. I admit I didn't really like Eleanor initially, but she definitely grew on me. She’d actually already had enough of her job as a journalist endeavouring to uncover the secrets of the rich and famous and, when she thinks about it, she’s not heartbroken to finish with her boyfriend- he was probably only using her to get access to the parties and venues her job enabled her to participate in. Time for her to head back home to her Mum - and all the animals! It is also a brilliant chance to reconnect with her childhood friends and the village of Cranley once more.Also returning to the village is Sam Harris, the future Earl of Cranley and fiancé of Eleanor’s friend, Annie. He’s bringing Tom Kingsely with him to give the global pop star a chance to rest and recuperate after a gruelling six months on tour - and to give him the chance to escape the paparazzi. Is this too good an opportunity for Eleanor to miss? It would certainly be a scoop and give her the chance to regain her job. Would it be worth it - especially as she gets to know Tom and realises what her betrayal would men?This is a story of sorting out your personal priorities, finding family and friendships and letting others know the truth about you. It has a whole range of great relatable characters and I throughly enjoyed learning about Willow Tree Hall, the future Duchess and Sam’s eccentric aunt who is a hilarious character! There’s even a stray dog to add to the mix. There are plenty of twists and turns, secrets to be revealed, a visit to the Glastonbury festival and even a village fete to be organised in this delightful read. I honestly hadn’t expected to enjoy it as much as I did and I’ll definitely be looking out for more by this author in future - my first move after reading this story was to purchase the first book in this series - A House to Mend a Broken Heart.I requested and was given a copy of this novel, via NetGalley, with no obligation. This is my honest review of the book after choosing to read it.

I am turning a 5 acre urban forest into an urban orchard. Nothing grows there now because of the dense tree cover and resultant lack of sunlight.Permaculture and food forests are popular buzzwords, but it is annoying how much revolves around weekend seminars, which are expensive and time consuming. I prefer information from books, which can be referenced. Many books on permaculture are limited to the climate of the author, but the authors do not seem to realize this and do not make a note of it in the book's description.This book has helped me in two specific ways. I am in zone 5 USA, warm summers and freezing winters. I bought some blueberry plants in mid summer from a local store which had them on clearance sale. Using the information in the book, I was able to dig proper fertile holes and plant about 20, they all survived the heat and humidity.The second thing I am doing as a result of the book is taking down trees over the winter, preparing to plant clover and grass. The book states which clover is best to plant, though I can't find a reference source for the claim. So, I am planting red, crimson, white and yellow, along with orchard grass.Michael Phillips has also set up a website.The main thing I have learned is the one absolute requirement is sunlight, at least here, edible plants simply require at least 6 hours of light. (Perhaps some tropical plants require less.) Also, there does not appear to be any quick and easy ways to plan what to plant. Everyone seems to recommend some clover because they provide nitrogen and they are durable.This is a practical book and it is worth the cost for what I have learned so far. I hope to use it more in the future.Edit: I bought it as an electronic book and use the "search" feature to learn about specific plants or terms. I think the book works well this way and do not know if it would work well to read it all the way through. I can't imagine myself reading a book this big all the way through, as most of it would never apply to my situation.
This is an excellent book. It has lots of good advice and numerous resources in the back. He also explains how you can tailor some of these methods to your preferences or exchange some sprays for others which you feel more comfortable with. I was surprised when I read that mushrooms growing under your trees meant the ecosystem was thriving well. I had always thought that mushrooms growing were a bad sign.
If I could give this book 10 stars, I would.This is the BEST book on holistic orcharding out there. While it's accessible, Phillips isn't afraid to get down in the dirt and go for technical biological details. A huge amount of information, but this didn't leave me wondering where to begin- he takes care of that by stepping you through the timeline and process. As soon as I'd finished reading, I started over and read it again. We all have areas that are more difficult for us than others, and some chapters will require me to study them carefully before I master the detail. I know I'll be referring to it frequently, and as my knowledge and understanding builds, I'm certain that I'll continue to gain insights from it through the years to come. This book has heft and value!Apples are listed as one of the dirtiest conventionally produced crops. When I started researching how to care for fruit trees it was a tough slog. I respect organic farmers deeply, but for many the basic bias is the same as conventional ag, just using less toxic chemicals. The problem is that if it were as simple as substituting less toxic chemicals EVERYONE would be doing it - no farmer really wants that crap around his home and family. Spraying isn't only a chore, but a hated one. When you need to wear protective clothing it's hard to feel good about you're doing, instead it encourages a war zone mentality. We war against insects, we war against disease.After studying organic, permaculture and biodynamic farming for 5 years, I finally stumbled across Elaine Ingham's work on soil microbiology, and became convinced that the key is maximizing the health of the biological critters in the soil, and finding ways to support them correctly so that they can support my apple trees. But this is all pretty new, cutting edge science, and figuring out how to progress from that understanding to an actual maintenance and treatment program was beyond me. I had bits and pieces of the puzzle.I renamed my sprayer the "Lunch Wagon" and began spraying enhanced compost teas and raw milk, preferentially feeding the "good guys" to allow them to get the upper hand.This book goes way beyond that. Michael Phillips pulls all of the disciplines together in a comprehensive approach. He's a real farmer who needs results, not an academic or an acolyte limited by a biased preference for one system or the other. An organic farmer for many years, he's willing and able to pull from biodynamic and permaculture principals to promote the biological content of the soil. Best, he does it with an orchardists' wisdom and understanding. Most of the materials/articles/books I've seen are focused on row crops, and the needs of an orchard are very different.We all want to understand our trees, the essential understory and the microflora and fauna that make up the ecology of the orchard; but practical advice for dealing with real life problems is critical. Phillips supplies both the understanding and the practical steps to take to achieve results.If you're committed to farming sustainably or if you just want a few fruit trees without poisoning your kids and pets with spray residues, take time to give this a thoughtful read!

Though I've only looked through the books and haven't read them all because they're each 2 inches thick, I can tell you that the artwork is as good or BETTER than what you see in any modern Marvel or DC comic. What I have read so far is very faithful to the Bible. ...Revelation is fantastic!I love these. Awesome stuff.
All the comics are well done. Just remember that the comic is not King James Version in case you feel strongly about versions. This is still a great tool to show to other people who need to hear God's messages. They are not claiming this is the Bible without error but a comic representation . By far this is better than thousands of comic titles on the market that do not point to Jesus, God and the Holy Spirit.
Oh yeah, not written yet. Prohibitively expensive to middle class parents with no real interest in religion, let alone their kids who were spiritually thirsty.It's a wonderful idea and I'm having to pace myself so as to not rush through it.Some of the stories are simply the Bible put into cartoon form. Others are wonderful when the writer takes the time to add their thoughts/interpretations to what otherwise silent characters might have said or thought. I read passages like that and think, "I KNOW, right? That's what I would have said or asked or thought if I'd been there!"There are some minor issues, like when it seems like the artists are switched midstream of a story. Telling the story of David and Jonathan, David's hair goes from blond to blondish brown over a page and completely brown on the next page.True to comic form, there are the garish faces and nearly every woman is beautiful and every man a finely chiseled bodybuilder with sculpted musculature. You have to laugh when you see that even the poorest people have fine, ancient type jewelry and that differing armies/enemies are distinguished by particular armor/helmets. It's all good fun and WONDERFUL!
These are awesome books! Bought them for the kids, but found myself enjoying them. It adds a little different perspective to the reading to see some one else's visual interpretation of what is happening. Is not word for word to the actual scriptures, but has good references on every page so that you can look up actual Bible passages in your Bible of choice. The bindings are high quality, and the picture quality is fantastic. Price seems a little steep, but once you actually hold these books and look through them I think you feel the price is fair. These books will last for years with even a little care. Also to see the kids ready these books and enjoying them is well worth the price.
For people who just won't read the Bible, this KINGSTONE BIBLE is wonderful. I sent one to a prisoner who loves it! Great drawings by comic book artists. Very complete also. KINGSTONE BIBLE is a set of 3- 2" thick hardbound books.
These are nice to get kids (and maybe some adults) interested in reading the Bible. The illustrations are excellent and IMO, even though it is not the entire text of the Bible, the meaning is preserved well.
The set is beautiful and rich. However, the binding is very weak. Upon opening the books for the first time to look through it, the stitching was loose and with my boys reading through them, it looks like it will rip and fall apart very soon. Very unfortunate, as the content and drawings are great.
Wonderful! Brings Bible to life for newer generation to identify with it and hopefully embrace it!

A five star book of drawings, but copied from a German text. It could have been excellent, but lacks anything to make it suitable for a non-German speaker. No descriptions or suitable identification in English. Just high quality line drawings from a foreign book.
Sure, it'd be nice if more of the drawings were printed a bit darker. And I'm always a fan of having his books be as big as possible. Good news is, they didn't clutter up the pages with a bunch of words. They let the drawings speak for themselves. There's whole bits of worlds here that will never exist. His drawings are a hint of what else he could have accompished. If only more folks could turn these into real buildings. Heck, I've always wanted to just make some models from some of the best of his drawings. Now that's something I would buy. Anyone game for creating some? I rarely say, "America's best" anything but there's no question, even 50 years after his death he's still America's best architect. Like Jimi is still America's best guitarist 36 years on. I love fine books with big pictures of his various homes and other buildings. To me, this is something else altogether, a journey into a world that exists something like worlds that come into existance in paintings or novels. Heck, he even does nice drawings of people in some of these. His brilliant knack for designing buildings into the context of its setting is one of his great strengths and it's even more clear in a number of these drawings. Who cares if this book was published in 1962. That is not a factor. I am unaware of a better book of his drawings, at least one that I can buy on amazon.com for under $10. Sure, there's some over $100. but I'm a workin' man, I can't afford that. I bring this into the home and my wife even admires it even though she's not the FLW fan that I am. Quality will tell folks. Get this if you have any inclinations for his drawings. A very satisfying walk through the spirits of what could have been. chrisbct@hotmail.com
The labels on all the plans are in German. The product description says English. I got it for my husband for Father’s Day and of course he noticed it right away. It is a bit of a misrepresentation.
This book is a very good collection of F.LL. Wright's earlier drawings of various sites and plans. It would be great to have one in hard cover if there were any that were published.
A beautiful book for anyone who appreciates architecture and the man who innovated modern living. Includes most blueprints except for the infamous Hollyhock House in Los Angeles.

GEORGE D. CAMERON III is Emeritus Professor of Business Law at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business. He earned a B.A. and an M.A. at Kent State University, and a J.D. and Ph.D. (Political Science) at the University of Michigan. He taught for 53 years—the last 43 at Michigan, including teaching visits in Beijing, Helsinki, Hong Kong, and Sao Paulo. The three Business Law texts that he authored or co-authored have gone through a combined total of 17 editions. He has won a number of teaching and research awards, including students’ first (1982) “Best Professor†award at the University of Michigan’s business school, listing as a noteworthy professor by Business Week in its 1986 ranking of the Top Ten Business Schools, a State of Michigan Undergraduate Teaching Award in 1990, the Bernard Teaching Leadership Award from his business school colleagues in 2003, and the Outstanding Senior Professor Award for 2004 by the Academy of Legal Studies in Business. International and comparative law has always been a high priority with Professor Cameron. The Business Law: Text and Cases (1982) that he co-authored was the first to include a full chapter on International Law, in addition to cases dealing with international transactions. He developed special courses for his teaching assignments at China University of Political Science and Law, and at Helsinki School of Economics and Business Administration (now the Aalto University School of Business). He co-taught a special international class in the University of Michigan’s joint program with Erasmus University (the Netherlands) for three years, and also co-taught in the U/M’s Global MBA program—teaching twice each in Hong Kong and Sao Paolo. The UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (addressed in Chapter III of International Business Law: Cases and Materials) became a regular part of all the University of Michigan courses Professor Cameron taught dealing with Contract Law and Sale of Goods Law.
