This book is an excellent introduction to identity and access management (what Gartner refers to as IAM). Chapter 1 introduces the enduring notion of the PDP and PAP, which was developed by the pioneers of the Internet in the 1990 in the IETF. The chapter provides a brief introduction to the current standards in the IAM space (LDAP, SAML, OAuth, OpenID Connect, and UMA).Chapter 2 is devoted to LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol, RFC2251), which is the grand-daddy of what is called today Directory Services, first championed by Novell in the 1990s. If your company or organization is operating Windows Server (on-premise or in the cloud), then you are running a directory services product (namely Windows Active Directory). This chapter focuses on LDAP because LDAP is simple (compared to Active Directory) and sufficiently embodies the various concepts that will be built upon in later chapters. The chapter covers various aspects of LDAP that are relevant to the topic of identity management.Chapter 3 is devoted to the Security Assertions Markup Language (SAML). The SAML standard was the first to address the need for Web Single Sign-On (Web-SSO), notably when the end-user is connecting using only a Browser to a service provider, such as an online merchant. The SAML standard defines a number of constructs which are key to communicating the information or data regarding the individual (or organization) whose digital-identity is being assessed. The Chapter covers these in sufficient detail (e.g. Assertions, Query-Response Protocol, Bindings and use-case profiles such as the Web-SSO profile). Best of all, the chapter actually provides some “swim lane†diagrams that shows the protocol flows – something that is very relevant to developers who are seeking to understand better the SAML exchanges.With the emergence of mobile devices and social media platforms in the past decade, a new protocol called OAuth emerged that is today dominant in many of the new platforms. This is the subject of Chapter 4. Most of the popular developer APIs to access services offered by major social media platforms (e.g. Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) employ the OAuth 2.0 protocol and tokens in one form or another. The chapter discusses the entities in an OAuth 2.0 setup, OAuth 2.0 tokens, the various grant types and flows, and provides a good example of OAuth 2.0 in action using Google APIs.Developers who have played around with OAuth 2.0 realize that additional features are needed to make it more deployment-ready. The protocol that extends OAuth2.0 is the OpenID-Connect (OIDC) protocol, which is the subject of Chapter 5. This chapter is one of the nicest and easiest to read explanations of OpenID-Connect. It even discusses more recent additions to the protocol, such as Client Registration.Chapter 6 presents a discussion about proxy servers and proxying, which is something every developer needs to be aware of nowadays because it is a core part of the network topology of many (most) medium to large organizations.Chapter 7 provides an overview of One Time Passwords (OTP) as part of the need for strong authentication. The chapter provides useful background information about standards coming from the FIDO Alliance (an industry consortium focusing on strong authentication). Specifically, it presents a good high-level explanation of the FIDO Universal Authentication Framework (UAF).Chapter 8 discusses one of the major issues today with IAM systems and data privacy, namely consent by individuals for access to their data and files. The protocol that implements consent rules and the enforcement of these rules on the user’s data/files is the User Managed Access (UMA) architecture and protocol. The reader is advised to first read Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 before attempting to read Chapter 8. This chapter provides one of the more accessible material on the UMA protocol. These three chapters (4, 5 and 8) make this book worth every penny.Chapter 9 provides an overview of open source softwares/tools that helps deploy and manage IAM systems. The chapter provides an overview of the various tasks involved in identity management by an IT organization. Each of the open source tools are only briefly described, and the keen reader is encouraged to look up these tools.Chapter 10 addresses the issue of scaling up identity services, notably in the consumer space. The technical term used is Federation or Federated Identity Management. The main purpose of federation is for identity service providers (even competitors) to work together to provide a seamless single sign-on (SSO) login experience to users who need to be authenticated by a relying party (such as an online merchant). Ideally the user should need to login only once, regardless of the destination online merchant. However, since a user maybe registered at only one Identity Provider (which may not be directly associated with the online merchant), these identity providers need to federate with each other under a common legal trust framework and contract. Chapter 10 provides the reader with a very good introduction to the concepts and nuances of identity federation.All in all, this is a very good book for the reader who maybe new to the area of Identity and Access Management (IAM), or new to OAuth2.0 in the context of API access ti services. As mentioned before, the core value of this book is Chapters 4, 5 and 8. These chapters are well written by a seasoned practitioner, making the book accessible and unique among the books on identity management. Both authors are experts in the field, and have been actively involved in the IAM space for over a decade now.To give a balanced perspective, the only slightly negative aspect of the book is the use of the Gluu software for many of the examples. However, these code examples are very useful and necessary. As the primary developer of the Gluu software Mike Schwartz (first author) is very familiar with the code. As such, it makes sense for him to use his own code for illustrative examples throughout the book.

I really hate to give the book a 1-star rating. I own a number of Ms. Yin-Fei Lo's other books (physical copies) and like them very much, but I have to add my complaint to the others about the publisher's callous disregard for blatant typos that make the Kindle version unusable.Most obviously, none of the fractions in the ingredients list display properly. For the most part, they show up only as the "fraction line", without numbers at all, though if I recall correctly, a few do display the denominator, but without the numerators! And it's not just fractions, regular numbers separated by hyphens are also screwed up. Ingredient quantities like (what I assume should be) "4-5 quarts water" for example, display without the first two characters at all (i.e., "
I love this book (I have the hardcover and kindle editions), but unfortunately the kindle edition STILL, after over a year, does not display fractions. Why does quality control suck so badly on so many kindle books?Update: prompted by another review, I looked at the book again. It looks like they have corrected the fractions issue!!! Too bad it took so long, but i’m happy now.
Kindle version of the book has numerous errors. Does not display fractions properly, so many ingredient amounts are unknown.
This cookbook, like most of Eileen Yin-Fei Lo's cookbooks, is focused on authentic Chinese cuisine and is not a Chinese takeout cookbook. As the book does not cut corners, it includes the presence of some Chinese ingredients which may be difficult to find outside an Asian supermarket. For example, the cookbook includes a number of recipes which would be considered banquet or special occasion foods and include ingredients such as Shark's Fin and Bird's Nest. Nevertheless, this book does include a number of everyday recipes such as Ma Po Tofu and Hunan Hot and Spicy Shrimp, which can be made after a trip to the Asian foods aisle of most supermarkets, and provides useful recipes for Chinese sauces, such as XO sauce, which are usually purchased prepared. This cookbook is definitely geared toward people who are more accustomed to traditional Chinese cooking or are interested in how Chinese food is outside the local takeout place. Mastering the Art of Chinese Cooking includes a number of beautiful pictures of the prepared food and provides a taste of what Chinese home cooking can really be like.
I write this review as one who has been stir frying for many years, but never had a real Chinese cookbook, nor ever learned from anyone how to cook Chinese in an authentic way. I heard about this book on The Splendid Table podcast as a recommendation for the book to get to really learn how to cook authentic Chinese. I ordered it immediately, and holy cow, the lady on the show was right!I have no idea how it compares to other books about learning to cook Chinese, but this is exactly what I've been wanting for years but never bothered to look for.It's not just recipes - it's the philosophy of various kinds of Chinese cooking set in the cultural context from which it came, with lucid, informative, and fun reasonings and descriptions of what individual ingredients do, why they're used, and how they are working with the other ingredients to bring out flavors, textures, and aromas.From the basics of how to make broth and cook rice to highly advanced dishes, she covers a huge range of styles from different geographies, and makes it all sing with her word pictures and personal stories and observations.It's also beautifully made - this is a seriously heavy hardback book with glorious full-color photographs. A work of art by itself.Highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn how to cook in a Chinese style, or who just wants to know more about the hows and whys of Chinese food.

Some of the authors are harder to digest than others. Fair amount of jargon. But if you are curious and patient, this is an excellent reader and reference for laypersons as well as professionals. Serious scholarship and useful notes. Considerations are given to both biological/genetic causes as well as developmental causes of criminal behavior.This book is insightful if you are interested in personality disorders generally. Many of the essays explore the connections of psychopathy with borderline and narcissistic personality disorder, with an expected focus on narcissism. What I found particularly fascinating were theories regarding the nature of the hostility rooted in all such disorders. I came away thinking that "malignant narcissism", or "aggressive narcissism", as Meloy puts it, are far more accurate and descriptive terms than "psychopathy".
This book covers the puzzling subject of a lack of a conscience that is very in-depth, which attempts to analyze the problem without wholly depending on moral or theological considerations. I suggest this reading for anyone who wishes to gain deeper insight into a most perplexing and troubling human matter.

Awesome book, especially the 10 subtypes. My ex-boyfriend is the "disengenouos psychopath." Literally every sentence of the description fit him, except one. And I probably would have seen the infrequent rages if I had stayed in the relationship.
I bought this as a gift for my son to add to his growing library. Very factual, not sensational graduate level work.

I haven't taken the certification test, so I don't know if the fluff will be on the exam or not, so until I know that I can't really say if one should skip this if their intention is to pass the Product Owner certification exam. If you are just looking for a good Scrum guide, look elsewhere. I've heard great things about Essential Scrum.

Whereas I found Book 1 a bit slower paced, Natural Mage heats this up a bit in the Magical Mayhem world. Penny and Emery are teamed back together and continue to find out how important they are to each other while trying to deal with the threat that is the corrupt Mages' Guild. Each grow as individuals and as a couple, their magic complementing each other and producing amazing results in the magical world. I really liked that Reagan and Darius featured more in Book 2 because I fell in love with them in the Fire and Ice Trilogy. Emery is coming to realise that he needs Penny and therefore needs to stop being a douche canoe and get back into her life. Even Penny's mother became more tolerable - I wanted to throttle her in the first book. For Fire and Ice fans, Reagan is training Penny as only Reagan could - with insults and continuous threats, resulting in many laugh out loud moments. Emery is a strong character and Penny continues to be quirky, but likeable, which is normally really difficult to do without the character becoming annoying, but once again, Ms Breene handles it with finesse. I can't wait for the final book in the trilogy as this world has continued to suck me in.
Book 2 is a wonderful continuation of Penny Bristol's story. I looked forward every night to diving into her fantastical world and out of mine. I love Penny, she's such a hoot, and look forward to more of her story. I can't wait so I've read this installment several times. How many times will I have re-read it before book 3 is published?This story is rated R for violence and sexual content.Note that KF Breene interleaves this series with her Fire and Ice trilogy. Same world, same style of writing, same humor and page-turning suspense. I love both series. Which series you read first is a dilemma. I read the first two books of this series, Magical Mayhem (MM1 & MM2), and then read the three in Fire and Ice (FI1-3). There are spoilers doing it that way. But Penny makes appearances in Fire and Ice that doesn’t make as much sense without reading this book (MM1), so I recommend reading FI1, MM1, FI2, FI3, and then MM2, but if you don’t want to break up the flow of Fire & Ice, read FI before MM.
The second book picks up a few months after the first. Penny is in New Orleans training to be a mage. At first Callie and Dizzy are training her, but it doesn't go well. Darius takes over the training with near disastrous results. Finally, Penny is paired with Reagan and the two develop an atypical training plan that works pretty well. Meanwhile, Emery is off thinking he's doing the right thing by staying away from Penny, but really he's just kidding himself. Thankfully, Emery finds his way back to Penny when he has visions of her in mortal danger (which happens pretty often once she’s paired with Reagan). Emery, Reagan and Penny are then stalked by the Guild, which leads to an inevitable battle and the three of them handle it with their own unique styles.I definitely liked this book better than the first. A big part of that is that we got to see a lot of Reagan in this book. She is probably one of my favorite characters, I love her attitude. Reagan and Penny are very different, but they work very well together. It looks like she will feature heavily in the third installment, so I am looking forward to starting that. I definitely recommend the book, and if you haven't read the previous trilogy, Fire and Ice, and you want to see more of Reagan, you might want to start that one as well.
Exciting series continues with book 2 of Penny Bristol's story. While this appears to be a trilogy, it is actually books 4-6 of the DDVN world begun in the Fire & Ice Trilogy (Reagan Somerset's story). What was most enjoyable in this book was the yin and yang of sweet, innocent Penny being trained by crazy Reagan (who in my opinion could be the next great UF heroine). Lots of fun, action, comedy and character growth for both Penny and Reagan. Absolutely can not wait for the next book!
So far, after reading the first two books in this series, I really like it. This book had a lot of action and intrigue. Since Reagan was in it, there was some humor as well. The guild is truly a nasty organization and I can't wait for the next book to see these great characters pay the Guild a visit. It should be exciting. I really appreciate the world K. F. Greene has created wit this trilogy and the previous one. The mesh together well and are fantastic reads. There isn't a way for me to go into detail without spoilers, so I'll leave my review with the advice that it's an excellent series that everyone will enjoy. Not as much humor as the first because Reagan is so entertaining, but equal in the enjoyable factor.
I am absolutely addicted to this series. Whether Breene writes a female lead as dominant, fierce and in your face kick a$$, or timid, quiet, with a hidden strength of steel at her core, she nails it. I wasn’t sure if I would like Penny as much as Reagan, but she is becoming a force to be reckoned with in her own right. It reinforced that there is no ‘right’ way for a woman to show her strength, whether a ‘helpless damsel’, or a mouthy broad with a sword, there is strength inside us that can surprise even our own selves. I can not wait to read the conclusion of this series and see Penny come into her own as well as have questions answered between she and Emery!
Penny moves to New Orleans to train with a dual mage pair, Dizzy and Callie. Penny doesn’t learn well with traditional methods and Darius decides to assist with her tutelage. Darius does not have success either. Finally, Reagan takes on the role of Penny’s teacher. They are opposites in many ways but grow to enjoy each other and Regan’s unorthodox methods work well with Penny. This book explores Penny’s relationships and friendships. Emery, who can no longer fight his affection, re-emerges and joins the team to make changes and keep Penny safe from the Mage’s Guild. This series gets better and better. The characters are multi-dimensional and endearing.

Wonderful missal for little ones who want to know the basics of the traditional Catholic mass.
Has pictures of what's happening in the extraordinary form of the mass with a one line explanation. Prayers as well. Maybe get a fewif you have a toddler in case they rip it.
Sweet book for younger kids. Our 6 year old has Down Syndrome and this is exactly what she needed for Mass. Its very simple with beautiful pictures!
The book is small and easily held by little hands and allows the children to try and follow along with the mass. There are a few pictures that they can color if they wanted to/are allowed to.
Great booklet for my grandchildren to learn about and follow the Catholic Mass. Excellent resource.
