I don't know for sure but I suspect that most adults struggle with anxiety to some extent. There are a lot of potential things to be stressed about in this world - some which can easily be dismissed logically, but many that are genuine concerns that probably will happen. Since this is a universal problem there are many Christian books out there on how to combat anxiety. When amazon vine offered me a book by Max Lucado I was happy to take it. I could use some help in this area of my life. I've read a few by this author. I know he has a solid, Biblical worldview.I expected this to be an encouraging, somewhat lightweight, book that I could enjoy for a few hours, take a little bit out of, and pass along for someone else to enjoy. My first impression of the book did not sway me from this view. The main section is only about 150 pages long, with a good amount of pages blank (between chapters) or devoted to a single large quote. I hate that sort of thing in a book but, oh well, I didn't pay for this anyway.To my slight surprise, despite the blank or 3/4 empty pages, this is a substantial treatment on the subject. Yes, it is encouraging, full of anecdotes and easy to read but it contains practical steps on combatting anxiety. Based on Philippians 4: 4-8 the author patiently dissects a very powerful passage of scripture and shows you exactly what you need to do to derive maximum benefit from these verses.I normally don't think much one way or the other when it comes to the use of acronyms when it comes to teaching (I can't remember a single one to be honest) but Max uses the acronym CALM as a teaching tool to show how to apply these verses.C - Celebrate God's Goodness - "Rejoice in the Lord Always"A - Ask God For Help - "Let your requests be made known to God"L - Leave Your Concerns With Him - "With Thanksgiving"M - Meditate On Good Things - "Think about the things that are good and worthy of praise"He breaks down each verse into understandable concepts that work in real life. I believe I will actually use this acronym to remind myself of the principles here. This is not a heavy theological book. These are simple real-life-applicable instructions for anyone who is willing to apply it. Medicine for a universal ailment. If you take the medicine you will see results. If you acknowledge the truth of the medicine but don't take it you will not see results. If you take a lower dosage, less often you will see lesser results. Surprisingly I have underlined many of the passages in this book that I plan to read over and over. I hope to get this type of thinking into my daily life until it becomes unconscious. Very much like the Gospel, this book will be of great benefit to anyone who simply receives it.Some personal thoughts before I go:One particular passage moved me greatly: "The benefit of being a great sinner is dependence upon a great grace. I found a forgiveness that is too deep to be plumbed, too high to be summited. I have never been more or less saved than the moment I was first saved. Not one bad deed has deducted from my salvation. No good deed, if there are any, has enhanced it. My salvation has nothing to do with my work and everything to do with the finished work of Christ on the cross."This is absolute truth. If you are a believer you should know one thing: God will never be angry with you again. He swore that in Isaiah 54, which comes after you believe in what happened in Isaiah 53. God has a Covenant of Peace with you that will never, ever be removed. When we get that deep down in our souls most of our anxiety will effortlessly evaporate.
This book is wonderful.The title "Anxious For Nothing" isn't a gentle scold on being anxious for no reason. The book acknowledges that there are many things in life that cause us anxiety. Rather, the book is about trusting God in such a way that gives Him control over our anxieties and leaves us exactly that...anxious for nothing. "Because the Lord is near, we can be anxious for nothing."This is my first Max Lucado book, so I was a bit surprised at its actual brevity; only 152 pages of narrative (with every couple pages filled with just a single sentence) with a remaining 70 pages of reflection questions and Bible verses. This is fine, especially if the book is read as part of a study, but I admit I did feel a bit cheated.That being said, I very much enjoyed the counsel of Max Lucado and how it was supported with Scripture in context. (It seems so many Christian writers take Scripture out of context these days.) I found myself jotting down little bits in a notebook and adding a few nuggets to the margins of my Bible. This is by far the best book I have read in terms of a Biblical approach to anxiety that makes sense and is Scripture-based.
When I see the name MAX LUCADO my interest is captured. When I ran across ANXIOUS FOR NOTHING: FINDING CALM IN A CHAOTIC WORLD, I ordered it immediately. I have run across many in my life that struggle with anxiety. I think if we were honest, most of us do in one form or another, at different times in our lives.ANXIOUS FOR NOTHING goes beyond what the title may first bring to mind. Anxious comes in many levels. We all have feared, worried, wanted to know what is going to happen ahead of time. Wondered if we are making the right decision, if the decision we make is the right one.ANXIOUS FOR NOTHING gives practical and Biblical ways to reduce fear, anxiety and uncertainty. I am three fourths of the way through the book, and so excited about what it contains I had to stop and write a review. Whether you believe you have a large or small issue with anxiety, or perhaps know of someone that does, ANXIOUS FOR NOTHING will be a benefit to your life. A must read by all, and one you will wish you had the funds to purchase a book for everyone in your life.

You should be able to complete title in a few sittings and come away with more encouragement and hope that is found only in Jesus.

This is a good book for someone who has no idea on how to plan a memorial service. It has some useful tips and did help me tie up some loose ends so I am glad I purchased it. I had a basic idea of what I wanted in our Celebration of Life so this book was a nice supplement to that.
I had no idea how to go about planning a non-religious celebration of life for our mother who died recently. It was reassuring to find a guide.The memorial itself went very smoothly, and we received many compliments from guests.
Purchased this prior to my husbands death. He did not want a funeral and this gave memany great ideas on how to plan his Celebration of Life. So glad I did. It was a joyous occasion.
It has all the info needed to plan a service. I'm not very far into it yet but it looks very helpful so far.
The book gives some thought provoking ideas on making last arrangements; I was already aware of most of the suggestions having been a social worker with disabled and vulnerable adults, and hospice volunteer who was with clients in their final hours. However for someone new to death and dying this might be more helpful. All in all, I did get a couple of ideas for my mother's funeral.
Every family should have this little book on the bookshelf for when they need it. I wish I'd had this straight-forward, thoughtful and easy to follow resource when I was planning the memorial service for my mother. Faith Moore gracefully takes the reader through the various options available to people who wish to plan their own services, or to help the bereaved create a remembrance celebration that they feel does honor and justice to their loved one.The is also a workbook, helping us sort through our feelings and wishes about a topic that no one really wants to tackle, yet all of us must at some time. So, why not do so with the guidance of a compassionate, careful expert like this author?

THE AWEN ALONE was a really thoughtful little book about solitary druidism. I really enjoyed it. Perhaps what struck me most (besides the author's careful and elegant tone) was that she is committed not only to helping the environment, but other people. She encourages a conscientious lifestyle that I so rarely see in Pagan books these days (which are self-indulgent to the point of narcissism anymore). As an introduction piece, there is the expected chapters on both ritual and holy days that are part of every pagan book, but THE AWEN ALONE provides enough original, thoughtful material that the experienced pagan shouldn't mind.This was a great introduction to druidism, and it made me curious to explore the faith further. This was a truly successful entry into the Pagan Portal series, and I hope to read more from Joanna van der Hoeven in the future.
I am deeply appreciative of Joanna van der Hoeven's book. After reading a great deal on line about Druidry, I wanted to learn more. I was drawn to this book because (a) the concept of Awen is what most attracts me to the Druid path over other branches of paganism, and (b) I have a personal aversion to organized religion and wanted the opportunity to explore alone rather than depending on finding a group that may or may not align with what I want out of this experience. At first I was a little put off by the introduction in which the author describes a regular day for her which felt wholly removed from the realities of my life. But as I continued to read, I found that van der Hoeven gives incredible space for following Druidry according to the realities of one's life and the parts that may or may not resonate with an individual. She offers practices as tools instead of requirements, while still specifying what might be considered the identifying characteristics of Druidry. It was very much what I'd hoped to find and is refreshingly different from another text on solitary Druidry (a much more prescriptive, formal, and theistic take on Druidry than Awen Alone presents) that I am currently reading. I'd recommend this book to people who, like me, shy away from organized religion and want the freedom to explore whatever resonates with you. The only drawback for me is that I wanted more text. It seemed as though the surface of Druidry was only being brushed.
I gave this book 5 stars simply for the fact that it is so genuinely free of preaching and dogma and focuses so heavily on what you make of druidry in itself. My only regret while reading this was that it eventually ended, and I was left with an unusual desire to live as the author does. I hope to one day meet Joanna van der Hoeven and shake her hand, perhaps discuss druidry in depth. Overall, if I could have given the book 10 stars, or 100 I would have. But sadly, there were only 5, hehe
The Awen Alone is a beautiful and exemplary tool-set for those looking to practice Druidry on their own or researching the path. As with most "beginner" books, this book covers many of the topics you'd expect to see. There is a bit about the history of Druids, the Eight-fold Year, Gods/Divinity, Ancestors, and how the Earth plays a part in the path. All of this information is well researched and written. A complete novice will find it to be quite comprehensive. There are even some tidbits or metaphors that could prove to be most useful to someone who has been walking Druidry for many years.But really, this book shines in all the parts that go beyond giving out standard information. The author does a wonderful job opening doors to the many ways one might enrich their Druid path without ever pushing readers to do, think, or feel a particular way about something. I especially enjoyed the way ethics were addressed. Ethics did not have its own chapter or specific set of rules. Instead, there were delicious moments that helped to reinforce the tenants of Druidry that guide a person to live a truthful and honorable life.I've come away from reading this book feeling a bit more inspired about my path and am eagerly going to put some of its ideas into practice!
It took a while to arrive, however it was in perfect condition when it did. This is my first time reading this author. She is very down to earth, and sensible. I really enjoyed this book, and I will be ordering another of her books shortly. If you are a solitary practitioner like myself, I reccomend giving this book a try.
Good little book for solo practice. I liked the focus on how to be a modern Druid and the practical aspects of meditations and prayers included. The historical detail was also very well written and interesting. I think I will return to this book to help inform my practice.
I felt this was a good guide to following a solitary practice of Druidry. There was no preachiness or pushiness in this, like I'd encountered in other books. In my opinion, Joanna Van Der Hoeven presented great guidelines for forging a path and worshipping the way one wants. No two people can experience their spirituality the same; the author takes this into account. I will be using this book as a guide as I continue to learn more.
Well written with good allusions to and descriptions of nature. Good loose guide for people who do not want to follow a formal or someone else's way of Druidry.

Good message in the story. Nice illustrations and appropriately written for beginning readers
My son just turned 2 and this is hands down his favorite night time book. We read it about 6 times over before bed, along with many others, but he always insists we read the "Alfie cookie book first." This book has actually helped my son (unintentionally) with using manners and saying"please", "thank you", along with "may I please?" He says it every time he needs something now and anytime we hand him anything. My husband laughed and said just keep buying books off of Amazon they're working:)
May I Please Have a Cookie? was perfect for my first grader to read with me. She just started to read vowel teams and long vowels. For reading level, I suggest this for the second half of first grade to second grade.
This is one of five books recommended to motivate preschoolers to read. It worked like a charm for my three kids; with very different personalities.
My soon-to-be 4 year old son is very picky when it comes to pretty much everything, clothes, cartoons, books, people, etc...before ordering this book I debated for a few days thinking he won't care for it but because of the reviews and price I ordered it, and he loved it. I read it to him 2 nights in a row and on the 3rd night he was pretty much reading it to me. Short and easy to memorize for kids, good for their memory, and also the actual content is very nice and teaches manners in a short fun story...now my boy loves Alfie and wants a little crocodile just like that. Order the book, it's a good one!
My 21 month old daughter loves books. I have a bunch of books and I recently ordered about 30 picture books for her age. May I Please Have a Cookie is now one of her favorite books. I know all children are different, but at least for my child this book is very enjoyable. I'm not sure what it is about the book, but it works. She enjoys smelling the cookies and pretending to eat the cookies and pretending to cry. She is also saying please now along with the book. I'm sure your child will love this book too. Some other recommendations based on her favorites are: Hop on Pop, The Very Busy Spider and Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?
I really liked this book and actually continue to use the verbiage in the book with my daughter to remind her a better way to ask for something other than just demanding what she wants. The book is comical but has a good message and is written in a way that kids pay attention and can relate it back to themselves in a real life setting. The graphics are great too!
Ours arrived yesterday and we've read it six times already! On the first read, our son (almost 4 yrs) started giggling through the story and we read it twice more. Early this morning he had the book in his hand asking that it be read - this was at 5.30am, so we've done that thrice again. He's possessive over this book and won't let his older brother near it lol. The book is wonderfully illustrated and the story fun while gives nice lesson in manners. Get this one, the book is enchanting to little ones.

Came in pristine condition. I bought this a gift for my flower girls and they loved it. In fact, the 4-year-old did not put down the Tangled Ultimate Sticker Book until the ceremony started. As it says in the descriptions, it definitely has less pages than the Frozen book, but that was expected. She still loved it. These are her favorite type of sticker books and though the sticker pages tell you what page to go to, since she can't read yet, she enjoyed searching for the page with the correct shape. So it's like shape matching AND sticker booking at the same time!
My three year old loves Moana and everything about it but I wish the book would of been a little longer. Other than that it's great for any Moana fan.
I think this would be a good diversion during car trips or flights. My niece (7) enjoyed this book, but it only kept her busy for 15 minutes before she had placed all the stickers. The stickers were all bright and good quality.
This Moana sticker book came in perfect condition and has numerous stickers of Moana characters. Throughout the book, there are shaded areas to place some of the stickers with bios and short explanations to read.This sticker book is very popular with my 2yr/o and has allowed for some early literacy (read aloud) and fine motor skills practice (putting the stickers in the right spot). It also has provided some quiet play time while she thumbs through the pages, looking at pictures.
Good quality stickers but our 2 year old put almost half the book on her shirt. Covered with stickers. Then while the dog was asleep, she put a couple stickers on the dog.
The product details describe this book as having 16 pages. If you include the sticker pages, my book is 11 pages. I have purchased sticker books at the same price that easily have triple the pages. Sixty stickers includes quite a few small ones. Very disappointed. We have other DK books we adore so this one was quite a surprise. Just because you have a favorite character doesn't mean you can skate by with an inferior product.
I was really surprised by the detail of this book with all the descriptions. My two year old enjoyed placing the stickers over the shadows. A good gift for Moana lovers
Book was smaller than I expected, however I should have read description. For this price, I thought it would be bigger. It's very cute though and I think kids will love it!
