I had Scrum Product Ownership on my must read for months as I waited for the third edition to publish. Many years ago, I worked as a project manager, business analyst, and/or product owner using largely waterfall methodology and I aimed to use this book to help me with my transition to becoming a more modern business analyst or product owner working in an Agile environment. The book admirably served me in this regard.The book is an easy read — pragmatic and to the point. It is filled with practical advice, backed by many “front-line†stories from other leaders in the Agile community or the author’s own experience. The structure works well with the first section introducing the role with an emphasis on the big picture “what†of the product owner role. The next two sections go deep on the core “how†of the role: first with user stories and managing the backlog, and then Sprint execution. The book closes with a section on company organization issues including options for scaling Scrum and organizational design relative to Product Management, Technical Architect, Business Analyst, and UX roles. In all, complete and well-rounded coverage of the Product Owner role from someone that clearly has “been there, done that†— more than once.P.S. I appreciated that I read an electronic copy because there are many footnote links to blogs and other complementary content that enriched the reading. I also appreciated that these footnotes where on the same page as the text and so no navigating was required to the end of the chapter or book.
