While not always agreeing with the Bush politics I've always admired and respected this family. This is a heart warming book that made me laugh and cry and gives this senior citizen hope for then future. I am hopeful that others will read this with an open mind and heart. There is much to learn here particularly with the country so divided about unconditional love and acceptance despite our differences.
This book is SO funny and so hopeful and so full of love! What a fun, wild and wonderful read. They are so honest and real. They share these incredible stories about their family and their relationships. I was really craving a book that would make me feel good and this book is that!! I love these girls and I can't believe what beautiful writers they are.
I have never written an amazon review before but felt compelled to share that this is such a joyful and enjoyable read! This is not a book about politics, it is a book about sisters and special bonds.
This is such a hopeful yet funny book. I think the stories are so heartfelt too. Jenna is such an authentic person....nothing phony about her. I love how they tell such great stories about their parents & grandparents....could not put this book down....not one boring page!
It was interesting geting to learn about a very privileged life that few can experience. Being in the spotlight is a very difficult life and they had extraordinary parents and grandparents that kept them grounded. The support and caring of their extended family is an unusual blessing. The content seemed controlled with no real depth, but who would want to air problems to the public.These two young women survived difficulties and took advantage of their opportunities, to become caring, contributing members of society.Any woman reader without a sister will envy what Jenna and Barbara have in their relationship. I applaud their candor in what they did write.This is a very “light read†when there is an occasion for that type book.
I bought this as a kindle book on a discount site. Did not vote for Bush. Oddly , started reading it as an escape from current political situation. Enjoyable read. First of all, fun to hear abt what it can be like to be a fraternal twin with all the comparisons that go on. But, also, the fun supportive parts. Secondly, interesting to read abt what is what like to be a college student with a secret service detail. And what 9/11 was like for dau of President. Lastly, liked hearing more abt Geo W. Esp touched by the descriptions of his paintings of wounded warriors and the angst he felt abt the war. I was never sure if he truly understood all the loss that would be involved when he made the decision to go to war. Appears he did later for sure. So, gave me a more complex picture of Bush 2.
This is a great book. I actually read this book in 2 days. The girls are so honest and funny! I don't know how you could not respect these girls and the Bush family. Such a heartwarming book...Thank you Jenna & Barbara~!
The Five Stars are because I read this on a cold Saturday afternoon when it was sleeting out and this book put some warmth back into my soul. It tells of the love and bond between the Bush twins and their family. It is also about growing up in the public eye, which they did with dignity. I read their mothers book, and these Bush women are pretty good writers for gals not in the business. Obviously the sisters led interesting lives of privilege, but they seem to have retained humor, kindness and morality. Very enjoyable.

Howard Zehr directed the first victim offender conferencing program in the U.S. and is one of the original developers of restorative justice as a concept. A prolific writer and editor, speaker, educator, and photojournalist, Zehr has spoken and trained others throughout North America and in more than 25 other countries, including Brazil, Japan, Jamaica, Northern Ireland, the Ukraine, and New Zealand, where a restorative approach in the juvenile justice system has led to a dramatic drop in youth crime.Zehr is Distinguished Professor of Restorative Justice and co-director of the Zehr Institute for Restorative Justice at Eastern Mennonite University (Harrisonburg, Virginia). Professor Zehr is an icon ins the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution and is the father of the Restorative Justice movement. His book, while small in stature, is chock full of theories, discourse, useful comparison tables/lists, and Zehr's thoughts on the fundamentals of a new (and much needed) approach to resolving "wrongs" in our society.This book is one of the core materials I use in a masters level conflict resolution program and is always one of the most favored of the class.Just to be clear, Prof Zehr doesn't provide the reader with a roadmap to Restorative Justice instead, he compares/contrasts the basic theories and procedures of the traditional justice system versus what he is proposing and allows the reader to fill in the structure.
This provides a quick primer (an our our two is all it takes) into restorative justice (1) as an alternative to our failed "retributive" justice system; (2) as a "how to guide" for applying restorative justice principles to everyday conflicts; (3) as background for restorative justice in the Judeo-Christian religion. (I am using it for an adult book discussion in our church, which is affiliated with the United Church of Christ.)
This book is a great way to approach reaching justice. The principles of RJ can be used in all types of conflict and offense, from parenting, to school discipline, to adult conflict in the workplace and off course as an alternative to the traditional way of handling criminal offenses. I do wish their were some examples of the encounter conversations or discussion on how long these processes can take, but it would have been a much longer book then. This book does a good job at staying focused on explaining the foundations and guiding principles of RJ instead of Telling people how it should be practiced.
well written as an introduction to restorative justice. Left me wanting to read more about the subject. When appropriately used, restorative justice is a better choice than jail time.
I do volunteer work for the MA and national Department of Peacebuilding Campaigns; Restorative Justice is one of the many peacebuilding programs we support. An ancient practice, it is now being used in schools, businesses, and in medical situations. State Senator James Eldridge has a Restorative Justice bill (SB 52) in the MA Legislature.
Great book! Just getting into the filed of Restorative Justice this revised edition has given me the information I needed in an easily digestible format. A great reference guide.
This little book is a great introduction to restorative justice ideas. I had heard of restorative justice but knew very little about it. Now that I’ve read this I feel like I know what people are talking about when they talk about restorative justice and have a framework to fit other justice-related ideas into.
I am a 4th grade teacher and I intend to begin using restorative circles in my classroom. I’ve seen them done and believe them to be an effective strategy for community building. This book gave me a better understanding of what restorative justice is and why it’s effective.
