This book succinctly and (I believe) accurately describes God's heart and intent for leaders functioning in His Church. We must continue to encourage apostolic leaders of sodalic organizations to respond to their call and use their gifts through sodalic structures.The Church can no longer be seen as just a local body of believers (Modality); the Church must also be seen as comprised of catalytic movements lead by apostolic leaders (Sodalities). As Sam so well points out, these two type of organizations, like two legs of a pair of pants are necessary for the health and vibrancy of the Church. Don't just read it, but live it, for the Kingdom of God depends on these truths.
This book gave me a lot to think about regarding how to define the Church and how to view apostolic gifting and ministry. Some books take a lot of effort to read; others draw me in. This one drew me in.
I have enjoyed reading through this book. It brought new insights to Ralph Winter's concepts of "sodality" and "modality." The book shows how both dimensions of the Church are essential dimensions of the whole Church.

This is the second cover like this that I've bought. I liked the first one so much, but wanted a different color. This one is equally as good (perfect size, handy outside pockets, handy inside pocket for pen & highlighter, handy 'handles'). HOWEVER, on this one, the scripture quote on outside is PRINTED AT AN ANGLE. It's not a big problem, but a little jarring to this 'perfectionist'. :) (see photo)
As far as functionality is concerned, I have no complaint. My hardcover ESV Bible (several years old) fits and everything, and I like how there's a pocket on each side of the protector. I'm also quite pleased with the "purse" aspect; that was a major selling point for me, having the handles place where they are.I took a star off because the day it arrived, just some hours later, I noticed the lettering on the verse had started to rub off. It's been about a month now--and understand, I'm not "picking at it" or anything--but more of it has come off. It doesn't bother me /that/ much, because the color scheme and the pattern on the brown part are more striking anyway, but for those of you might care, be forewarned.
This is a nice size and will fit my even my large JPS Tanach and any book I choose to take. I wanted it because I like to read my own stuff when going for doctor visits. And since I study a lot, it also has enough room for my sticky notes, highlighters and notepads.I also like that the zipper is right side up with the handles rather than upside down like some. I find that kind to be awkward and most likely that's just me!
Quality cover, handles reinforced, detail stitching on the outside is pretty and understated. I’m not flashy so this is modest aYet very pretty and sturdy. I use it over a big bible. Plenty of pockets as described. Would recommend it to anyone.

Really like my new Bible case. I choose the medium size and it fits my medium Bible and medium size notebook. Plus several pens. Good quality for a good price. Teal and brown go great together.
I love the case but I am concerned that one handle is not affixed as neatly as it should be. I wish they had checked the sewing prior. Maybe mine is just one that wasn't checked thoroughly by Quality Control. Despite that, it's a great case.

This book laid out special occasions perfectly, and the evening was a success! The months leading up to the event, and the event itself could have gone terribly wrong, had I not read this book. If you live your life under the thumb of a parent who just won't leave you alone, this book is for you! I found a sense of peace and relief in this. I was even able to learn about my sister, as according to Ms. Brown's descriptions, as children of a controlling parent we each took a different path in life. This helped me understand all the family dynamics a little bit better, and how to be a better parent myself. Only time will tell with the next generation, hope I didn't mess that one up too much!
I actually found another book on the same topic to be much more helpful: "Trapped in the Mirror: Adult Children of Narcissists in their Struggle for Self," by Elan Golom. "Children of the Self-Absorbed" was a bit too clinical for me and I found the endless questionnaires to be cumbersome and unhelpful, and since much of the book depends on you doing each one and then applying your answers and what you've learned from them to the next situation, I finally gave up and stopped reading. I'd strongly recommend Golom's book if you want a more helpful treatment of the subject.
I have read a lot of literature out there about parents who have mental disorders, however, this book has been the most helpful resource that I have ever come across. It doesn't waste time trying to diagnose your parent with a mental disorder, but rather, it just tackles all of the traits of a self-absorbed parent by grouping them into different categories. It quickly becomes clear if this is or isn't your parent. For example, two of the categories provided a spot-on description of my parent and from there, which was my starting point. It offers real solutions for dealing with your parent as well as identifying and resolving some unpleasant traits in yourself. Not only has it helped me on the road to a less stressful and heartbreaking relationship with my parent, but it has led on a journey to becoming my best self, which was more than I expected this book to do. I will not say that it replaces therapy, but if you find that you still need to seek professional help I think that this book will provide an incredibly valuable starting point saving some time and money in your recovery process. If I do choose to seek professional help, I think that as a result of this book it would be more productive and less overwhelming. If you think this book may describe your parent, read the free preview and if it seems to line up with what you experienced growing up, this will absolutely be worth every penny.
As long as you're not looking for a book on how to fix a narcissist, this is a great and helpful read. Short answer is, you cannot fix them, nor can a professional, so take steps to protect your life from them. It gives lots of useful tips for varying degrees of closeness with said self-absorbed person, and it applies to bosses, co-workers and neighbors too.Not too touchy-feely, but more of a realist's guide to surviving.

I got this as a gift for my dad for Christmas. He's almost impossible to shop for, but he genuinely seemed intrigued by this and the salt block I got to go with it.
Nice accompaniment to the salt block
This is a great book for those with no knowledge of salt block cooking. Easy directions and how-to care tips. I haven’t made any recipes yet, but there are many to choose from, including great charts and photos. The binding feels a little loose, but overall a fantastic purchase for the price.

Compré el libro (en inglés), me lo tragué, y empecé a regalarlo comprándolo en Amazon en versión digital (vivo en Venezuela y hay pocas oportunidades de tener libros recién publicados aquÃ). Lu go lo encontré en español en una librerÃa y compré varios de ellos para regalar también. Era la Navidad del 2011. Lo he compartido, recomendado como médico en mi consulta.Ahora que vi la pelÃcula, la cual es abrumadoramente hermosa, lo releà en inglés y luego en español. Gracias Amazon por tenerlo en español. Y he comenzado de nuevo con regalarlo, en inglés, en español, o en la pelÃcula.Qué más puedo decir de este libro? Atrévete a leerlo con él corazón de un niño y descubre un Dios infinitamente sorprendente.
Por años intenté agradar a Dios, sintiéndome destrozado cada vez que caÃa; sintiendo que una vez más habÃa decepcionado a Dios. Entonces poco a poco y de pronto, un maravilloso dÃa, comprendà en lágrimas de gratitud que Dios no pretende que yo lo complazca ni que viva luchando por lograr Su aprobación, porque Su eterno amor por mà nunca ha dependido de mÃ, sino de Él. Él es amor. Ésa es Su naturaleza. Todo lo que Él hace está motivado por el amor. Nada de lo que yo haga, bueno o malo, hará que Dios me ame más o menos. Él me ama porque para eso me creó. Fui creado para ser amado y nada cambiará esa gloriosa realidad. Él busca una relación de confianza conmigo pero, ¿cómo puedo confiar en Dios si no estoy seguro de Su amor por mÃ, si tengo que luchar cada minuto para que no se enoje conmigo y me castigue, si tengo que ganarme Su aprobación cada dÃa y nada que haga parece ser suficiente? Yo no tengo que ganarme Su favor. Su gracia es favor. Cuando decidà creer que Dios me ama, abrà el corazón para que me sanara. Entendà que Él ama lo que soy, mi desastre, mi dolor, mi voz que le canta, mis talentos y mis defectos terribles. Dios nunca ha sentido asco de mÃ, ni aún en los momentos en que más enfangado he estado. Él nunca me ha dejado. Creo que cuando Jesús estuvo en la cruz y, lleno de angustia, exclamó: "¿Dios mÃo, por qué me has desamparado?", estaba diciendo como humano, cómo se sentÃa, pero el Padre estaba muriendo con Él en ese momento. Esos clavos también estaban taladrando las manos y los pies del Padre. Jesús siempre habÃa disfrutado de la presencia plena del Padre en Su vida. Nunca habÃa estado solo pero, allà en la cruz, sintiendo todo el pecado del mundo entero, se sintió separado de Dios, de la misma manera en que nos sentimos cuando estamos cargados de culpa. Estoy seguro de que mientras Jesús clamaba, Su Padre derramaba el corazón diciendo: "Ay, Mi Hijito Amado... No te he dejado. Estoy derramando Mi vida Contigo ahà sobre esa cruz; Te estoy abrazando para que sientas Mi fuerza de nuevo y puedas terminar la obra que convencerá a muchos de que los amé desde antes". Entonces, Jesús respiró profundo comprendiendo que el Padre estaba allà con Él, en Él, y confiando de nuevo plenamente en Su Padre, exclamó: "En Tus manos encomiendo Mi EspÃritu". Cuando Él murió, nosotros también morimos, y cuando Él resucitó, nosotros también resucitamos. Cuando al fin entendà Su amor, comencé a vivir en santidad por gratitud, ya no por temor. Esto es la gracia. Yo no puedo solo. Me rindo a Su amor, confiando en Él completamente. Entonces, Él puede en mÃ. Excelente libro, respondió a algunas preguntas que tenÃa en el sentido espiritual. Me hizo ver a Dios desde otra perspectiva lo cual es bueno ya que muchas veces sólo nos enfocados en algo que se llama religión pero este libro te hace ver a Dios sin mencionar una religión. Lo recomiendo!

Nunca es tarde para comenzar una relación con nuestro Dios, pero el comienzo esta amando a nuestro prójimo como El nos amo a nosotros!
Me siento identificada con este libro, ya que vivà experiencias muy extremas que me llevaron a sentirme abandonada y olvidada por Dios. Tanto asà que me revele y perdà la comunicación con el. De eso hace ya 25 años. Hoy todavÃa estoy en la lucha por recuperar mi fe y confianza en quién es pero me cuesta decirle Padre. Leerlo fue como si personalmente hiciera las preguntas y se me dieran respuestas.
This is a book with the ability to make you think about God's unconditional love and then understand that His plan for each one of us is infinitely better and bigger than anything we as humans can even dream. We just need to learn to truly trust Him with our life.
